    • 1953: Jimmy Carter KO 4 Tommy Collins, Boston. Retains World Lightweight Title. Collins was dropped 7-times in round 3. Round 4 saw Collins dropped 3-more times before his handlers rushed into the ring to rescue their dazed fighter. Meeting the press after the bout, referee Tommy Rawson was asked why he hadn’t called a halt. “Carter never hit him flush,” he responded.

    • 1993: Michael (Second to) Nunn KO 6 Crawford Ashley, Memphis. Retains WBA Super middleweight Title. A brutal body attack spells doom for Ashley.
    • 1995: Howard Cosell, 77, dies of a heart embolism at the Hospital for Joint Diseases in Manhattan.
