WBA Annual Convention officially launched in China

May 18, 2007 - The World Boxing Association (WBA), China’s city of Chengdu’s government and Chengdu’s Sports Bureau formally signed an agreement today at the Wangjiang hotel for which the 86th WBA Annual Convention was officially launched.

Therefore, the WBA becomes the first boxing sanctioning bodie to ever hold a Convention in China. The event will be held from next October 7th through 13th.

The agreement was signed by WBA Executive Vice-President Gilberto Jesus Mendoza, Chengdu’s Sports Bureau Director Qin Wen Ling, and Chinese Boxing Association’s President Li Ping.

The signing of the agreement was followed by a press conference attended by all media organizations of Chengdu and the province of Sichuan, besides international news agencies.

“This is the most important event ever for boxing in China. The WBA is the pioneer of boxing’s sanctioning bodies, for which it is an honor for us to have its convention here,” Mr. Qin Wen Ling said.

“This convention will serve as a great motivation for both the local Association and the Chinese young fighters in general. We really thank for having this opportunity,” Mr. Li Ping said.

On his side, Mr., Mendoza said that “we are thrilled to be the first ones to be working along with Chinese boxing. We are here to help the development of Chinese boxing, which has a tremendous potential. But we also know that it is a big responsibility and we will cope with that accordingly.”

Located 1.518 kilometers / 943miles South West of Beijing, Chengdu is the capital of the Sichuan province and its 10-million people population makes it the fifth most populous city of the country.

Chengdu is known for its unique architecture and constructions of the Ming Dynasty and its Buddhist temples, which contrasts with its modern transportation and communication structure, one of the best in China. Also, the famous Pandas are one of the special attractions of this region as well as their “fine cousine”, both things that the Chengdu people can be very proud of.

Mayo 18, 2007 - La Asociación Mundial de Boxeo (AMB), el gobierno de la ciudad china de Chengdu y la Oficina de Deportes de Chengdu firmaron formalmente hoy en el hotel Wangjiang el acuerdo mediante el cual quedó oficializado el lanzamiento de la 86ta. Convención Anual de la AMB.

De esta forma, la AMB se convierte en el primer organismo rector de boxeo en realizar su convención anual en China, evento que se desarrollará del 7 al 13 de octubre próximo.

El acuerdo fue firmado por el Vicepresidente Ejecutivo de la AMB, Gilberto Jesús Mendoza, el Director de la Oficina de Deportes de Chengdu, Qin Wen Ling, y el Presidente de la Asociación de Boxeo de China, Li Ping.

La firma del acuerdo fue seguida por una rueda de prensa a la que asistieron todos los medios de comunicación de Chegndu y la provincia de Sichuan, además de las agencias internacionales.

“Este es el evento más importante en la historia del boxeo de China. La AMB es el organismo rector pionero, por lo cual para nosotros es un honor recibir su convención en nuestro país”, afirmó el señor Qin Wen Ling.

“Esta Convención servirá como una gran motivación no sólo para la Asociación de Boxeo de China, sino especialmente para los jóvenes boxeadores de este país. Realmente agradecemos esta oportunidad”, señaló el señor Li Ping.

Por su parte, el señor Mendoza dijo que “estamos muy entusiasmados por ser los primeros en trabajar palmo a palmo con el boxeo chino. Estamos aquí para ayudar al desarrollo del boxeo de este país, el cual cuenta con un tremendo potencial. Sabemos que eso implica una gran responsabilidad, y sabremos trabajar acordemente”.

Situada a 1.518 kilómetros / 943 millas al sudoeste de Beijing, Chengdu es la capital de la provincia de Sichuan, que con una población de 10 millones de habitantes es la quinta ciudad más populosa de China.

Chengdu es conocida por su arquitectura y sus construcciones que datan de la época de la Dinastía Ming, pero también por sus templos Budistas, los cuales contrastan con su moderno sistema de comunicaciones y transporte, considerados los mejores del país.

También los famosos osos Panda son una de las atracciones especiales de la región, así como su refinada cocina, todos estos aspectos por los cuales los habitantes de Chengdu deben sentirse orgullosos.
