Former Champion Callejas Received WBA Belt

February 9, 2008 - Former World Boxing Association (WBA) champion Victor “Luvy” Callejas received a WBA belt during a ceremony held on Thursday in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico.

The belt was handed to Callejas by WBA referee Luis Pabón and his brother Edwin during Puerto Rico’s “Most Valuable Ones of the Year” ceremony. The former champion was thrilled to receive the belt and promised to donate it to Puerto Rico’s Sports Museum that is located in his home town of Guaynabo.

Callejas won the WBA Super Bantamweight title on March 26, 1984 after beating Italian Loris Stecca in Puerto Rico.

He made two successful defenses of the crown by beating Seung Hoon Lee (February 1985) and winning a rematch against Stecca (November 1985).
